How safe is teeth whitening?
How often have you wondered if the teeth whitening process—while delivering aesthetically pleasing results—is also safe? The answer from modern dentistry is that this procedure is completely safe, provided safety guidelines are followed.
Whitening at the clinic or at home?
The choice between in-office whitening and at-home whitening depends on how quickly you want to achieve results and the severity of the staining, which your dentist can assess.
In-office whitening is a more immediate solution, often completed in a single visit! During this process, the pigments are removed without damaging the enamel of the teeth. At Dental Place, we use advanced “power bleach” whitening techniques, featuring the latest ZOOM and BEYOND technology.
On the other hand, at-home whitening is performed using custom-made trays (whitening braces) specifically designed for each patient. The patient applies the whitening gel and follows the treatment as instructed by the dentist.
For proper use of the whitening trays, please refer to our advice here.
It’s important to note that you may experience some sensitivity when consuming hot or cold foods. Don’t worry—this is normal for some individuals and is usually temporary, especially if you follow your dentist’s instructions.
How long does the whitening effect last?
To maintain your beautiful results, it is necessary to repeat the whitening process approximately every four to six months, depending on individual habits.
On average, the whitening effect lasts about two years, but this duration can be significantly influenced by your daily habits. Foods high in sugar and other detrimental habits—such as coffee consumption, smoking, and poor oral hygiene—can diminish the brightness of your teeth more quickly. Therefore, it’s advisable to limit smoking and avoid foods with strong pigments (like tea, coffee, and red wine).
